Critical Regionalism Abroad

By Stylianos Giamarelos
Critical regionalism gained global recognition in the 1980s for integrating local sensibilities into modern architecture. While many practitioners began creating “placeless” buildings worldwide, Greek architect Aris Konstantinidis (1913–1993) took a different path. Less known internationally, he shared his vision of regional modernism on his own terms, through publishing and teaching beyond Greece’s borders. Critical Regionalism Abroad – Aris Konstantinidis without Greece presents Konstantinidis’s life and work outside his home country, revealing alternative approaches to critical regionalism in a global context.
