Architecture of the Transit State

By Cauê Capillé & Thiago Soveral
Often seen as mere apparatuses of mobility, transit infrastructures in Rio de Janeiro hold political and environmental potentials that remain largely unexplored. These infrastructures materialise the state of transit — the regional urban condition and the daily collective form of the metropolis. This book proposes four architectural design strategies that act on existing infrastructures and stimulate their collective potentials: Strategy of the Club; Strategy of the Greenhouse; Strategy of the Banquet; and Strategy of the Pool.
